Literary stars of tomorrow were on show on Sunday at Creative Walden’s poetry recital.
Saffron Walden mayor, Heather Asker was there to hand out the prizes, including Courage awards for Lily Worboyes, 12, Vivien Neupaverova, 8, Lily Frisenda Thomas, 9, who will all become authors in their own right this year.
Alice Bromell, who started 6 years ago as a young writer and now tutors the group was awarded a special trophy for her poetry book ‘The girl who decided to go for it’.
There were many highlights of the evening including Izzy Logan’s beautiful poem ‘So long Sparrow’ and eleven-year-old Ellie Gill, who brought the house down with her hilarious take on the trials and tribulations of travelling abroad in ‘The 12 days of holiday.’
“We have children who have their own struggles in life and many on various spectrums, but they all seem to score high on the happiness charts when they come to the Writer’s Room and I thank them, one and all, for sharing that happiness with Alice, Lee and myself. Wednesday nights are just the best,” said Paul Bellany, who runs the creative writing sessions at Fairycroft House.
One parent, Laura Worboyes, who, along with her daughter Lily, climbed Scafell Pike in May, raising over two thousand pounds for the group, paid tribute to Creative Walden. “Writer’s Room has been amazing for us. It’s the perfect environment for nurturing the creative talent of the young people who belong here. It’s a safe, relaxed and fun environment that supports the writing and wellbeing of those who attend.”
